While some might consider it a sight for sore eyes, the truth is that the seaweed, or wrack, is actually keeping the ecosystem stay healthy and beautiful in its own right. Seaweed helps the ecosystem in several ways, for example it carries food for migratory birds and it fertilizes dune vegetation when it dries up. It is also known that the wrack is used by young turtles to create a home that has substantial nutrients and warmth.

Raking the sand can destroy sea turtle nests and relocating the nests costs a lot of money.
