Mild® Procedure for Lower Spinal Stenosis (LSS)

WHAT IS THE MILD® PROCEDURE?

The MILD® (Minimally Invasive Lumbar Decompression) procedure is a safe, FDA-cleared treatment for lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) that offers lasting relief without the need for open back surgery. Performed in our Broward and Palm Beach County locations, this outpatient procedure has helped thousands of patients reduce pain and improve mobility. The treatment typically takes about one hour, involves minimal recovery time, and carries a very low risk of major complications.

Here’s what to expect during the MILD® procedure:

  • You will receive local anesthesia and light sedation—no general anesthesia is required.

  • A small entry point, about the size of a drinking straw, is made.

  • The doctor uses real-time imaging guidance throughout the procedure.

  • Specialized instruments are used to remove small pieces of bone and excess ligament to relieve nerve compression.

  • No stitches are needed after the procedure.

  • Most patients return home the same day.

  • Light activities can often be resumed immediately, and many patients return to work within a few days.

This minimally invasive spinal procedure is an effective option for patients seeking relief from lower back pain and mobility issues caused by lumbar spinal stenosis, without the extended recovery of traditional surgery.

SUCCESS OF THE MILD® PROCEDURE

Many patients report that after the MILD® procedure, it feels as though their mobility and vitality have been restored. Clinical studies show that approximately 79% of patients experience positive outcomes—meaning nearly 3 out of 4 patients enjoy significant relief. This procedure is particularly beneficial for those with lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS)caused by thickened ligaments, often resulting in restored mobility and substantial pain reduction.

WHO IS THE MILD® PROCEDURE FOR?

This minimally invasive procedure is designed for patients experiencing pain in the lower back, buttocks, legs, or feet—often due to lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). It offers an effective alternative to traditional open spine surgery, with far less downtime and risk. Performed as an outpatient treatment, the MILD® procedure allows most patients to return home the same day and resume light activities quickly.

OCCIPITAL NERVE BLOCK

The occipital nerves are at the back of the head beneath the scalp, just underneath the skin. An occipital nerve block literally blocks the nerves. As indicated, the ONB may be administered on the left side, the right, or both.

TRIGGER POINT INJECTIONS

Trigger points are painful areas of contracted knots in which muscles have been overactive. Edwin W. Maldonado, MD, treats trigger points with trigger point injections Jupiter containing a small measure of local anesthetic and/or a steroid.

EPIDURAL INJECTIONS

Epidural injections Jupiters are commonly used to provide relief to individuals suffering from disc herniation, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease. This is the injection most commonly used by physicians for pain management.
