OCCIPITAL NERVE BLOCK JUPITER
For an individual who has or may have a condition called occipital neuralgia, Edwin W. Maldonado, MD, may use an occipital nerve block Jupiter for diagnosis and treatment. The procedure is an injection containing local anesthesia and also, when treating painful conditions, a steroid medication.

WHAT IS AN OCCIPITAL NERVE BLOCK (ONB)?
The occipital nerves are at the back of the head beneath the scalp, just underneath the skin. An occipital nerve block literally blocks the nerves. As indicated, the ONB may be administered on the left side, the right, or both.

The purpose of this treatment is to reduce or eliminate pain in the scalp. Patients who feel relief from a first injection may need repeat procedures. It is typical for the treatment of pain caused by occipital neuralgia to require two, three, or more injections.

The effectiveness of an occipital nerve block is determined on a case-by-case basis. Research shows that by receiving initial treatment early on, after symptoms manifest, sufferers tend to have a better response to an ONB.

The Certified Spine & Pain Care Clinic of Edwin W. Maldonado, MD can offer relief for occipital neuralgia sufferers with an occipital nerve block. Visit one of the clinic locations at Jupiter, Wellington, Delray Beach, or Margate today.
