INTERCOSTAL NERVE BLOCK

INTERCOSTAL NERVE BLOCK JUPITER

Certified Spine & Pain Care

Intercostal nerves are located under the ribs, and an intercostal nerve block Jupiter is a procedure Dr. Edwin Maldonado may use in the diagnosis and/or treatment of pain caused by shingles (herpes zoster) in the chest, a chest scar resulting from surgery, a rib fracture, or a trapped intercostal nerve.

NOTE: This procedure should not be performed on individuals who take blood-thinning medication or who have heart disease or diabetes that has been poorly controlled. It is also not recommended for patients with poor lung function. Make your physician aware, if you have any of these conditions.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU GET AN INTERCOSTAL NERVE BLOCK (INB)
It only takes a few minutes for an intercostal nerve block procedure. The injection is a combination of local anesthetic and steroid medication. No sedation is needed. During the procedure, the patient is usually lying on the opposite side from the one to be injected. Afterward, there is typically pain relief for two hours or so, due to the local anesthetic. The steroid medication may not go into full effect for 3 to 5 days. Relief could last up to a few months or only as long as a few days.

When suffering from pain, contact the pain management clinic Certified Spine & Pain Care along with Edwin W. Maldonado MD to discuss all options available to you. There are four locations to choose from: Jupiter, Wellington, Delray Beach, and Margate Florida.
