LUMBAR SYMPATHETIC BLOCK PALM BEACH GARDENS

The injection of a local anesthetic into or near the sympathetic nerves is referred to as a lumbar sympathetic block Jupiter. Edwin W. Maldonado, MD, may administer an LSB treatment to a patient with any of the following painful conditions: Herpes zoster or shingles involving the legs; reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), complex regional pain syndrome, and sympathetic maintained pain. Others who might benefit from a lumbar sympathetic block are patients with peripheral vascular disease or neuropathy.

HOW DOES A LUMBAR SYMPATHETIC BLOCK (LSB) WORK?

A lumbar sympathetic block affects sympathetic nerves, which are in the lower back and are part of the sympathetic nervous system. The types of functions these nerves control are basic ones, such as regulating the flow of blood. Pain can occur when the pain information from peripheral tissues is carried to the spinal cord.

A lumbar sympathetic block may improve mobility and can reduce symptoms in the lower extremity such as pain, sweating, color, and swelling.
