Limestone Creek – An Island of Beauty & Erosion

Limestone Creek, FL is one of the most beautiful rivers in South Florida. It runs from the Miami-Dade County line in southern Florida all the way into the Atlantic Ocean. It’s the second-largest river in South Florida and has been called the “Queen of the Caribbean” by its discoverer, John D. Fordham. It can be easily accessed by the Intracoastal Waterway or the South Beach Intracoastal Waterway from the Intracoastal Park area of Miami. More can be found here.

 

Limestone Creek is officially a census-designated natural reserve in Palm Beach County, South Florida, United States. The population was just over 500 in the 2020 census. In fact, there are many historic sites on the creek that date back over three thousand years. This is very rare in any of our Florida rivers. People and animals have thrived for centuries in this area. In fact, this area is considered to be a wetland, which is a unique habitat in Florida. Limestone Creek runs through over one hundred acres of land. There are five picnic areas, three miles of hiking trails, and seven miles of bike trails. There is also a fishing boat available on occasion. You can fish here year round as well as catch smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, and white bass.
